New venue will host U2 this fall

The Eagles are reportedly “locking in dates” as the second act to man a residency at the newly built MSG Sphere in Las Vegas. The New York Post reports that Madison Square Garden (MSG) owner James Dolan in talks with the legendary rockers to perform at the $2.2 billion out-of-this-world venue.

“They are locking in dates,” one anonymous source says.

It’s unclear when the band may headline the 20 thousand spherical venue. Sphere will open its doors on September 29th with the first of U2’s 25 performances of U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere, and the Darren Aronofsky-directed Sphere Experience, Postcard from Earth, will debut on October 6th.

Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Harry Styles and Phish have all been rumored as Sphere headliners, although nothing has been officially announced.

The Sphere will house the world’s most advanced audio system called Sphere Immersive Sound, powered by HoloPlot. The system provides crystal-clear, individualized sound to every seat in Sphere. Sphere Studios, which develops groundbreaking technologies and content, partnered with HoloPlot, a global leader in 3D audio technology, to create Sphere Immersive Sound – the world’s largest, fully integrated concert-grade audio system that revolutionizes immersive audio experiences.

This fall, the Eagles — featuring Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and the return of Deacon Frey — will start their final The Long Goodbye Tour, kicking off September 7th at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Due to overwhelming demand, second concerts in New York City, Boston, Denver, Indianapolis, Atlanta and St. Paul have been announced. Dates are currently set through November 18th in St. Paul with the trek expected to continue through 2025.

Over the band’s more than 50 years of touring, the Eagles have performed more than one thousand concerts around the world, accounting for more than 15 million tickets. Eagles’ tours have consistently ranked in the Top 10 of both concert industry publications, Billboard and Pollstar.

In the fall of 1971, the Eagles formed, pioneered, and personified a uniquely American musical style blending country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop sensibilities, and would go onto become one of the most creatively and commercially successful bands of all time. In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons.

The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six No. 1 albums, and topped the singles charts five times. They earned six Grammy Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their very first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

The band’s Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum. Hotel California is the third best-selling US album in history, certified 26-times Platinum. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and earned two Grammy Awards for “New Kid In Town” and “Hotel California.”
