Guitarist hopes to resume touring this weekend

Eric Clapton has postponed shows in Zurich, Switzerland and Milan, Italy this week after contracting COVID. The rocker was set to perform in Zurich on Tuesday, May 17th and Milan on Wednesday, May 18th but will now be rescheduled after the legendary guitarist tested positive shortly after his second concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Sunday, May 8th.

“He has been told by his medical advisors that if he were to resume traveling and performing too soon, it could substantially delay his full recovery. Eric is also anxious to avoid passing on any infection to any of his band, crew, Promoters, their staff and of course the fans,” a statement reads.

“So, after intensive internal discussion, it has been decided with great regret and apologies to all those concerned to postpone the performances in Zurich on 17th May and Milan on 18th May, the present hope being to be able to resume the tour starting with the concerts in Bologna on 20th and 21st May.

“It is very frustrating that having avoided COVID throughout lockdown and throughout the period when travel restrictions have been in place Eric should have succumbed to Covid at this point in time, but we very much hope he will be sufficiently recovered by the end of the week to be able to perform the remainder of the planned performances.”

Rescheduled dates will be announced once they’re available, but confirms the shows are being planned within the next six months. Tickets will be valid for the newly announced dates.

Clapton has also announced seven new North American dates for September 2022. Clapton will kick off the trek on September 8th in Columbus, OH with stops in Detroit, Pittsburgh and two nights each in Chicago and New York City. The shows will feature Jimmie Vaughan as special guest.

Tickets for the newly announced North American dates go on sale Friday, May 20th.

Clapton will release Nothing But The Blues, his 1995 and Emmy-nominated documentary film on June 24th. The film, which was broadcast once in the US on PBS in 1995, has been upgraded to 4K for its long-awaited official release. In addition to the film, Reprise will release a new soundtrack with more than an hour of previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1994 during the legendary guitarist’s tour supporting From The Cradle, his Grammy-winning, multi-platinum blues album.
