“Cupid” continues to break records

Fifty Fifty continues to break records as the quartet becomes the first female K-pop group to remain on the Billboard Top 100 chart for 14 consecutive weeks with its song “Cupid.” The song rises from No. 24 to 17 this week. The four piece is the third K-pop girl group to ever spend seven weeks on Billboard’s Artist 100, behind Blackpink and Twice.

This week, “Cupid” also lands at No. 4 on Billboard’s Global chart, excluding the US, and No. 5 on the Billboard 200, both dated July 1st.

Last week, the ladies entered the top 15 of Billboard’s Pop Radio Airplay chart. “Cupid” has been steadily climbing the chart for six consecutive weeks, landing at No. 14 as of June 21st. The song has continued to chart for a total of 24 weeks, breaking the record for the longest entry by a K-pop girl group, following the 12-week tie record set by Blackpink and Dua Lipa’s collaboration “Kiss and Makeup.”

Fifty Fifty’s “Barbie Dreams” featuring Kali will be included in the Barbie The Album soundtrack, due this summer. Barbie The Album will feature new tracks from an unprecedented lineup of artists including Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Lizzo, Karol G, Charli XCX, PinkPantheress, Ava Max, Dominic Fike, Khalid, The Kid Laroi, Tame Impala, Haim and Gayle. Fifty Fifty are set to appear at KCon LA 2023 on August 19th for a meet and greet and also will perform at the Crypto.Com Arena. US tour dates are forthcoming.

In April, it was announced that the girl group signed a partnership with Warner Records in the US after making their Billboard Hot 100 debut with the song in March. They are the sixth-ever K-pop group to enter the chart, following Wonder Girls, BTS, Blackpink, Twice and NewJeans.

The song was released as The Beginning: Cupid in physical form on June 9th via Warner Records containing the Twin version with Korean lyrics and an instrumental version. The sets contain a photo book, photo cards, poster and more and acts a prequel to the their debut EP, The Fifty, which was released in November 2022.

Fifty Fifty consists of four visionary artists and performers, Saena, Sio, Aran, and Keena. Their name has two meanings, the first combine themselves and their fans, the first “50” or “half” represents their fans, and the other “half” represents themselves, combining those two makes 100 or a “whole.” The second meaning is “dream world” vs. reality, with “50” representing each respective “half,” and this is meant to express the concept of their travels in between the real world full of challenges and an ideal world that’s filled with nothing but love, friendship, and happiness.
