More than 150k units sold during first week
High Off Life, the new solo album from the game’s preeminent trap star, Future, debuts at No. 1 this week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, with a first-week performance of 153,000 units. It’s Future’s sixth solo chart-topper (his seventh overall) and the highest SPS mark of his career for a debut week.
Certified gold by the RIAA upon its release thanks to the success of the platinum Drake collaboration “Life Is Good,” High Off Life picked up where its hit single left off, scoring a whopping 12 debut placements on the Billboard Hot 100. Future’s new career total of 110 Hot 100 hits places him in lofty company, as he’s now surpassed Jay-Z’s mark of 107 and Elvis Presley and Nicki Minaj’s 109.
In the whirlwind week leading up to the album’s release, Future quickly demanded the attention of his ravenous fanbase with an unexpected series of reveals, from his album artwork and track list to a cryptic website that doubled as a digital scavenger hunt. In addition to his flair for stirring the social media pot, a day didn’t go by where the Fire Marshall wasn’t the topic of conversation.
Future’s ability to create an event every time he drops appears to only be strengthening, and the record books have begun to take notice. A sixth consecutive debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 moves Future into a tie with Beyoncé for fourth all-time, quite the historic mark.
