Capaldi shares message on social media

Lewis Capaldi has announced that he’s taking a break from touring for the “foreseeable future” due his Tourette’s Syndome diagnosis. The Scottish pop star shared the news on Tuesday (June 27th) following a Glastonbury performance that was cut short over the weekend. Capaldi says he needs to focus on his health for the remainder of the year.

“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future,” he writes. “I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped three weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

Most shows on the international tour have sold out with limited tickets left in some markets. Capaldi wants to focus on returning to full capacity.

“I’m so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve,” Capaldi shares. “Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of, so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.”

Capaldi returned to the stage over the weekend at Glastonbury after canceling all tour dates leading up to the appearance. The 26 year old had hopes of being mentally healthy to perform, but lost his voice and relied on the audience to help him through his set. The Guardian reports that Capaldi told the audience he’d be taking a break.

“I recently took three weeks off. It was a break for my mental health. I wanted to come back and do Glasto ’cause it’s so incredible, so I just wanna thank you for watching us. I was shit scared but you’ve really made me feel at ease,” he said from the stage. “I’m really sorry. I hope the Eavises will have me back on, even though it’s been a bit of a shit show. I feel like I’ll be taking another wee break for the next few weeks, you might not see me for the rest of the year. But when I do come back and I do see you I hope you’re up for watching.”

Capaldi had dates scheduled through October in Europe, Australia and The UK with most shows sold out.

The tour was in support of the pop star’s sophomore major label album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, which became his second Official Albums Chart No. 1 in the UK and became the fastest-selling album of 2023 and sold more copies than the rest of the Official Albums Chart Top 10 combined this year.

A film documenting his Tourette’s is streaming now at Netflix.
