The film will premiere later this year on Paramount+

Melissa Etheridge’s limited docuseries will make its premiere at Tribeca this summer before debuting on Paramount+ later this year. Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken is an impactful two-part special about Etheridge’s bond with incarcerated women at the Topeka Correctional Facility through music.

An inspiring story of healing and transcendence through the power of music, when five female residents from the Topeka Correctional Facility write letters to Etheridge, she uses their letters as inspiration to create and perform an original song for them. Having recently lost her son to opioids, Etheridge works to understand and interrupt the cycle of addiction while connecting with these women who, so often, are forgotten by society. With female incarceration rates up 700 percent since 1980, Etheridge bonds with the women through the conduit of music as an act of empathy, understanding, and hope.

Etheridge will perform a short acoustic set at the Beacon Theatre following the world premiere, presented by City National Bank.

Additional music films making their world premiere at the festival include They All Came Out To Montreux with Prince, Sting, Carlos Santana, Aretha Franklin, and Keith Richards; Linda Perry: Let It Die Here with Linda Perry, Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile, and Christina Aguilera; and Avicii – I’m Tim with Tim “Avicii” Bergling, Chris Martin and David Guetta.

Jon Bon Jovi will be among the headlining speakers at this year’s event which takes place June 5-16 in New York City.

The 2024 Tribeca Festival, presented by OKX, offers a diverse array of narrative, documentary, and animated films. This year’s festival promises a thoughtfully curated program with everything from timely documentaries addressing political and social concerns to independent narratives showcasing award-winning actors.

Etheridge’s docuseries will be paired with I’m Not Broken (Live From Topeka Correctional Facility), a live album recorded within the grounds of the Topeka Correctional Facility that’ll be released in July. The award-winning activist has released “The Shadow of a Black Crow (Live From Topeka Correctional Facility),” as the first single. Initially written for her son Beckett Cypheridge, who succumbed to opioid addiction in 2020, “The Shadow of a Black Crow (Live From Topeka Correctional Facility)” is the first of many ultra-personal live recordings to come from the record.
