The TikTok star offers up honest emotions in clip

Breakout singer/songwriter Peytan Porter trusts fans want more than fairy tales, so she’s embracing the messy with the release of her new music video for “Why We Broke Up.” The lead track from her debut project In My Head finds Porter in her raw emotions at the end of a relationship. Working alongside director Emma Golden, Porter finds ways to include secret clues throughout the video that tie-in the narrative behind her seven new songs. In My Head is available at all digital retailers and fans can watch the music video for “Why We Broke Up” below.

“We shot this music video the week after my first CMA Fest, which was one of the biggest weekends of my life so far,” states Porter. “My literal dreams were coming true, but I was also dealing with the end of a relationship at the same time. I was super present in enjoying the excitement and highs of CMA Fest, but by the next week it was harder to keep the disappointment of how the relationship ended at bay. The day of the shoot, I was teary-eyed the whole day, and I joked with everyone to let me know if we needed a crying scene. They thought I was kidding, but when we were filming the breakup scenes at the end of the shoot, I was given the okay to cry. And, I sure did…immediately. It’s funny how life hands you lows to balance out the highest moments, but everything has a purpose and getting an authentic crying scene in this music video is a good example of that.”

Written by Porter alongside Smith Ahnquist and Sam Bergeson, “Why We Broke Up” was highlighted by Entertainment Tonight upon release and we chatted with her about the project. The song leads the way as Porter begins to make her own footprint on country music as both a songwriter and artist.

In an era obsessed with choosing sides and validating preconceptions, Porter sees things a little different. A self proclaimed small-town misfit from Dawsonville, GA, she’s breaking the molds of both polished commercial country music and the rootsy-craft behind Americana, hooking listeners with vivid tunes that feel universal yet question what we already think. With the seven songs behind her debut release, In My Head, her vision comes into view. Porter’s voice demands attention with an insightful stance as she signed her first deal in 2021 as a joint venture with Jody Williams Songs and Warner Chappell Music.

Garnering a universal connection, “Therapy,” reached over two million streams in just six months and earned her a nomination for iHeartRadio’s “TikTok Songwriter of the Year.” It’s a drive that shows up in all the music behind this emerging star who has shared the stage with Willie Nelson and more. She will open for Brett Eldredge on September 2nd in Portsmouth, NH, Saturday, September 3rd in Cohasset, MA, and Sunday, September 4th in Hyannis, MA.
