Randy Travis announces ‘Where That Came From’

The song will be available later this week

Country legend Randy Travis will release his new single, “Where That Came From” on Friday, May 3rd via Warner Bros. Nashville. The icon shared the news today (Tues, April 30th), stating the project differs from anything he’s done before.

“It’s been a while since we’ve last spoken and even longer since I released my last new recording. You have been my most loyal supporters for many years and for that reason, I want you to be the first to know that this Friday, May 3, I will be releasing my first brand new studio recording in more than a decade, ‘Where That Came From,'” Travis shares.

“There were times I wondered if my days of recording new songs were behind me and the gift of getting back into the studio to record something new for y’all is something I’m deeply grateful for. This song is a special one and done differently than any of my previous recordings. It’s a thrill to be able to get back in the saddle again to produce and share new music with you.

“You’ll hear much more about the special team of folks who came together to help make this magical moment in my career possible in the coming week. In the meantime, just know that when it comes to me singing songs for you, there’s always more where that came from. Thank you for singing along all these years.”

Travis has been teasing the project on social media, along with other country stars, including Cody Johnson and Josh Turner. Further details will be unveiled.

Travis suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2013 that left him largely unable to talk or sing. His wife Mary Travis has been his support, speaking on his behalf. She told us at CMA Fest last year that new music was coming.

“The chances are 100%. It has already been mixed. Everything’s ready to go by Kyle Lehning, Randy’s producer….a whole other album of Randy Travis music,” she says.

With lifetime sales over 25 million, Randy Travis is one of the biggest multi-genre record sellers of all time and a recent inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame class of 2016. His honors include seven Grammy Awards, 11 Academy of Country Music statuettes, 10 American Music Awards, two People’s Choice awards, seven Music City News awards, eight Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association, and five Country Music Association honors. In addition, three of his performances earned CMA Song of the Year honors: “On the Other Hand” (1986), “Forever and Ever Amen” (1987), and “Three Wooden Crosses” (2002). To date, he has 23 No. 1 singles, 31 Top 10 smashes, and more than 40 appearances in feature films and television shows.

Four of his albums are gold. Four are platinum. One has gone double platinum. One is triple platinum and another is quintuple platinum. In 2004, Travis was honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was honored on the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville. He has been a member of the cast of the Grand Ole Opry since 1986. In 2017, Randy was honored with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds Nashville. Since his near-fatal stroke in 2013, with the help of his wife Mary and rigorous physical therapy, Randy continues to make improvements in his speaking, walking, and yes, singing. With the help of author Ken Abraham, he released his critically acclaimed memoir in 2019, Forever and Ever, Amen. In 2021 CMT named Randy the CMT Artist of a Lifetime and in 2022 the country music icon released his award-winning documentary More Life.
