Rapper died in Los Angeles

Coolio has died at the age of 59. TMZ reports the rapper died from cardiac arrest while visiting a friend Wednesday afternoon (Sept 28th) in Los Angeles.

Coolio’s longtime manager, Jarez Posey, tells the publication a friend found the rapper — who’s birth name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr. — unresponsive on a bathroom floor of his house after he failed to return after an unknown period of time.

Paramedics were called and pronounced Coolio dead at the scene. An official cause of death is pending per an autopsy and toxicology results. No drugs or paraphernalia were found at the scene.

With over 17 million records sold worldwide, Grammy award-winning and multi-platinum recording artist is known around the world as a musical and cooking master of extraordinary reinvention. He rose to fame in the mid-90s with his massive hit, “Ganga’s Paradise.” The song stayed at the top of the Billboard charts for three weeks. He also composed the theme song for the 90’s Nickelodeon show, Kenan & Kel. He recently achieved one billion streams on Spotify.

Coolio was one of the performers on the 2022 edition of the I Love the 90’s Tour. The trek is scheduled to run through October 8th with a rolling lineup including headliner Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, Treach of Naughty By Nature, Sir Mix-a-Lot, and other rap groups from the 80s and 90s.
