The rapper died in Las Vegas following a Mobb Deep performance
Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy has died at the age of 42, his publicist confirms. The rapper died “a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth,” TMZ reports.
An exact cause of death has not been determined as of press time.
Prodigy, along with Havoc, formed Mobb Deep in New York City in the early Nineties and went on to become one of the most influential rap duos from the era. Jay-Z even credited the duo as a major influence during his Songwriters Hall of Fame induction last week in New York.
The rap community has shared their thoughts on Twitter.
