Rock Hall announces 2022 Inductees

Six women will be inducted in a single class

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has announced the inductees for 2022. Pat Benetar & Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon will be inducted as performers. Judas Priest, which has been on the ballot twice before and snubbed, will have metal heads rejoicing as they’re being enshrined with the Musical Excellence Award alongside Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Harry Belafonte and Elizabeth Cotten will receive the Early Influence Award while Allen Grubman, Jimmy Iovine and Sylvia Robinson are honored with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

“This diverse group of inductees each had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture and helped change the course of rock & roll,” says John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “Their music moved generations and influenced so many artists that followed.”

To be eligible, artists are required to have released their first record 25 years prior to Induction. Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon were on the ballot for the first time. This is Eminem’s first year of eligibility. This is the first year in the Hall’s 37-year history that six female acts will be inducted in one class.

Parton had initially declined her nomination, stating she didn’t feel worthy of the honor at this time. However, a month later she reconsidered and said she would “gracefully” accept the honor if she were inducted after the Rock Hall addressed the situation, stating they wouldn’t revoke her nomination, and becoming more informed of how the voting process works.

“I am honored and humbled by the fact that I have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Of course I will accept it gracefully. Thanks to everyone that voted for me and to everyone at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I will continue to work hard and try to live up to the honor,” Parton states on social media following the public announcement.

The 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The Induction Ceremony will air at a later date on HBO and stream on HBO Max, along with a radio simulcast on SiriusXM’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Radio channel 310 and SiriusXM’s Volume channel 106.

Ticket on sale information will be announced later.
