The Rolling Stones are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Their Satanic Majesties Requeston September 22nd via ABKCO Music & Records. The group has released “2000 Light Years From Home” lyric video from the 50th Anniversary Special Edition.

Originally released in December of 1967 on Their Satanic Majesties Request (and also featured as the B-side to the American single “She’s a Rainbow”), “2000 Light Years From Home” was regarded as a highlight from the album, which was a noted departure from the band’s roots in rhythm and blues. One of only two numbers (the other being “She’s a Rainbow”) from Satanic that The Rolling Stones have performed live, “2000 Light Years From Home” has become a favorite amongst fans and an inspiration to the next generation of artists. The song has been covered by a diverse list of acts, ranging from Monster Magnet and Grave Digger, to The Tragically Hip and Colonel Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. The official lyric video was directed by Lucy Dawkins & Tom Readdy at Yes Please Productions.

Their Satanic Majesties Request was originally mixed in both stereo and mono, as was standard practice in 1967. The limited edition, hand-numbered 50th anniversary set will include the entire album on 180-gram vinyl in stereo, another 180-gram vinyl record in mono, and two hybrid Super Audio CDs (one in stereo and one in mono).

The set also contains remastered audio by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering, a 20 page book featuring an essay by Rob Bowman, includes Michael Cooper’s photos from original cover shoot in special edition foldout packaging including restored original Lenticular, not available for over 30 years. The vinyl lacquer was cut by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios.
