The long-running publication awards the pop star with the honor

Time magazine has named Taylor Swift their 2023 Person of the Year. The pop star was awarded the honor over other contenders including Barbie, King Charles III, Vladamir Putin, and others.

“In a divided world, where too many institutions are failing, Taylor Swift found a way to transcend borders and be a source of light,” the publication shares about her honor. “No one else on the planet today can move so many people so well. Achieving this feat is something we often chalk up to the alignments of planets and fates, but giving too much credit to the stars ignores her skill and her power.”

The organization also chatted with the global superstar about her career, including how she prepared for the global trek.

Swift’s trajectory skyrocketed during the pandemic when she managed to record multiple new albums and started the process of re-recording her first six she aptly calls “Taylor’s Version.” During Swift’s 17-year career, she’s notched more No. 1 albums than any other woman in history, including three this year alone. More than three million attended the 53-date North American leg of The Eras Tour. Due to demand, Swift will return for 17 more dates in the fall of 2024 after completing Asian and European runs.

The country-turned-pop star is also being credited with raising the United States economy with The Eras Tour. The Philadelphia Federal Reserve and Cincinnati officials share that Swift’s 53-date US trek has helped raise the economy with tourism. The tour is expected to gross $2 million by the time it wraps with a second North American leg of 17 dates in November 2024. The trek makes Swift the highest-grossing female artist and The Eras Tour the largest-ever grossing tour in US history.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, which was filmed during a six-night stand at LA’s SoFi Stadium in August, opened theatrically in October, raking in more than $178 million domestically and $248.95 million globally to land the biggest debut of all time for a concert film. The film spans more than two and a half hours and features over three dozen songs, omitting several from the three-and-a-half-hour live show. An extended version is set to drop this month on digital services.

Swift bypassed major studios and worked directly with AMC for the theatrical release. It took less than 24 hours for the Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour to shatter AMC’s US record for the highest ticket sales revenue during a single day in AMC’s 103-year history.

Swift reportedly became a billionaire due to the tour and her album re-recordings, the first artist to be minted the status solely on her musical accomplishments.
