Event is Nov 14th
Travis Tritt is set to perform the National Anthem for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-1 mission, scheduled for Saturday, November 14th at 7:49 pm EST. The Crew-1 mission will launch NASA astronauts Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover, and Shannon Walker, along with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) mission specialist Soichi Noguchi, from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Pre-launch coverage, including Tritt’s performance of the Star-Spangled Banner, filmed from his home in Georgia, will air live on SpaceX’s website, NASA Television and the agency’s website, as well as numerous other platforms.
While Tritt is no stranger to delivering the national anthem at high-profile events, he’s especially honored to play a role in this historic event. “I’m thrilled and very proud to be a part of this historical event as NASA and SpaceX continue to expand space exploration,” Tritt shares.
“NASA’s SpaceX Crew-1 is the first mission in a new era of crewed long duration flights to the International Space Station,” says Paul Wizikowski, Executive Producer of NASA’s launch broadcast. “Launching from American shores, this mission strengthens the bonds of partnership and invites viewers the world over to join in. Travis Tritt performing the National Anthem adds an American icon to this story of human exploration and discovery and will signal the start of the crew’s move to the pad for launch.”
Tritt’s appearance comes after astronauts aboard the International Space Station created a one-of-a-kind video of them singing along to Travis Tritt’s hit song, “It’s A Great Day to Be Alive.” Starring commander, Chris Cassidy, and the space station crew, the video featured clips of them living their daily lives in space while lip-syncing to the famous Travis Tritt tune. Cassidy and the crew were part of Expedition 63, a long-duration mission to the International Space Station. The team was helping to conduct research and participate in several spacewalks outside of the station.
Over three decades after having launched his extraordinary music career, Tritt has released a new single “Ghost Town Nation;” the first release off his highly-anticipated forthcoming album, produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, The Highwoman, Brandi Carlile). His albums, seven of which are certified platinum or higher, have led him to amass more than 30 million in career album sales, two GRAMMY Awards, four CMA Awards, including the CMA Horizon Award (now known as the New Artist Award); a Billboard Music Award for Top New Artist, an invitation to become a member of the world-famous Grand Ole Opry and a devoted fan base coast-to-coast. Among his eleven studio albums and numerous charted singles are five No. 1’s and 20 Top 10 hits, including “Help Me Hold On,” “Anymore,” “Can I Trust You with My Heart,” “Foolish Pride,” “Best of Intentions,” “I’m Gonna Be Somebody,” “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde,” “Here’s A Quarter,” “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive,” and more.
