The country star is set to executive produce the series
And Fancy Like that, Walker Hayes is developing a drama series inspired by his life. Deadline reports that Untitled Entertainment has acquired the rights to Hayes’ life with the country star to executive produce the series alongside Untitled and The Black List screenwriter Justin D James, who’s also attached to write the script.
Over the last few years, the Monument Records recording artist has experienced just about the highest high an artist can dream of. After grinding for nearly 20 years in Nashville, he struck gold with his smash hit “Fancy Like,” which topped the country charts in 2021. He wrote and recorded the song at a tiny home studio. A week after its release, his daughter invented a dance to go with it, and the track soared on TikTok. For months, the fun-filled tune could be heard in every bar, restaurant, sports game or tailgate, all while hundreds of thousands of people danced to it on TikTok. The song garnered Hayes a Grammy nomination, among many other accolades, and led to a sold out, headlining arena tour.
“My wife Laney and I have had such a wild life and love story,” Hayes says. “We reflect all the time together, wondering how in the world we got here. The amount of brokenness versus beautiful lends itself to endless amounts of stories to explore. I can’t think of an emotion we haven’t felt together. We never could have imagined a company like Untitled would want to create a scripted drama about our life. Their willingness to welcome and include us in the process has been beyond encouraging. We are excited and grateful for this creative opportunity to share us with the world!”
Earlier this year, the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and country music maverick announced a new partnership with Monument Records and RCA Records. In 2021, he released his most recent album, Country Stuff The Album, in 2021 and has followed with a handful of singles, including the two-track retrospective, Being a Dad and Missing Mine.
It’s unclear when production will start.
