Band will no longer support The Scorpions

Whitesnake has canceled the band’s upcoming North American trek with The Scorpions. Frontman David Coverdale says he’s still receiving treatment for an upper respiratory infection that forced the group to cancel European tour dates last month.

“It is with profound disappointment and a heavy heart that I must announce that Whitesnake will no longer be able to join The Scorpions on their US and Canadian tour due to my continued treatment for a persistent upper respiratory infection that affects my ability to perform. This includes the cancellation of our own headlining shows as well,” Coverdale shares.

“While Whitesnake will no longer be on the tour, the Scorpions will be continuing on. We Wish Our Good Friends, The Scorpions Every Success!!!”

The Scorpions have also shared a statement, sending their well wishes to the group.

“We wanted to let you know that Whitesnake will no longer be joining us on our U.S. and Canadian Rock Believer tour,” they write on social media. “Nothing is more important than our fans and it was important to us that we keep the shows as scheduled. We wish Whitesnake all the best and look very much forward to seeing you and rocking with you all on tour along with Thundermother.”

It’s unclear when Whitesnake, which is currently on its Farewell Tour, will return to the road. Prior to the European cancelation, Coverdale and Co had canceled several dates due to to various health issues. Guitarist Reb Beach was temporarily halted and missed five shows while he recovered from an undisclosed illness, and then the group missed a festival performance due to drummer Tommy Aldridge not being able to play, also for undisclosed reasons. Coverdale had announced he was also ill and suffering from a sinus and trachea infection which caused more issues.

The Scorpions will launch the Rock Believer World Tour on August 21st in Toronto with dates lined up through October 21st in Las Vegas.
