Band shares clip designed by ILOVEDUST
Metallica has released an animated lyric video for “Master of Puppets.” The clip was created by UK design agency ILOVEDUST, which helped in creating Ozzy Osbourne’s Patient Number 9 artwork and worked with the Foo Fighters for their Studio 666 movie.
Metallica has released live performances of the song, but this is the first official video released from their first three albums spanning 1983-1986. The group’s first-ever video was issued in 1988 for “One” which appears on …And Justice For All.
Earlier this month, the song saw a major increase in streams after the 1986 track was featured in the season four finale of Stranger Things. “Puppets” climbed into the top 10 on iTunes and Spotify’s US daily charts as US streams has grown nearly exponentially since the episode premiered. It made its premiere on the Billboard Hot 100 36 years after its release.
On July 5th, the band shared a statement on the use of the track in the popular Netflix series.
“The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include ‘Master of Puppets’ in the show but to have such a pivotal scene built around it. We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away… it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?” the band writes. “It’s an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show.”
