The song joins an elite club
Bon Jovi’s iconic 1986 hit, “Livin’ on a Prayer,” has officially surpassed two billion streams on Spotify. The song, which was featured on the band’s album Slippery When Wet, has become a classic rock anthem and a staple of the streaming era.
This achievement follows other recent milestones for the band, including “Livin’ on a Prayer” reaching one billion streams on Spotify in January 2023 and the song being certified diamond by the RIAA for ten million sales and streams in the U.S. in 2024. Other Bon Jovi hits like “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “It’s My Life” have also joined the Spotify Billions Club.
The song is the latest of two dozen songs to surpass two billion streams on the platform. The Weeknd, Lewis Capaldi, Post Malone, Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and others are among the elite two-billion-stream club members.
Bon Jovi’s music is also popular on YouTube, with three videos in the YouTube Billions Club. “It’s My Life” was the first in July 2021, followed by “Livin on a Prayer” in February 2023, and “Always” in March 2024.
Last year, the band ignited a renaissance amid their 40th anniversary. The legendary group impressively claimed five spots on the Billboard Hard Rock Digital Song Sales Chart with “Livin’ On A Prayer” at No. 1, “It’s My Life” at No. 3, “You Give Love A Bad Name” at No. 4, “Wanted Dead Or Alive” at No. 6, and “Runaway” at No 8.
They also let cameras inside their lives for the career-spanning four-part docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story on Hulu. The series was made with full cooperation from all past and present members of Bon Jovi. The docu-series is a ROS production, the banner of filmmaker Gotham Chopra.
Last June, the band released Forever via Island Records. The album features the blockbuster single “Legendary” along with “Living Proof.” Upon its release in March, “Legendary” vaulted to the top of the Billboard Digital Song Sales Chart and No. 2 on the Rock Digital Song Sales Chart, climbing to the Top 20 on the Adult Pop Airplay Chart. A duets edition is reportedly in the works.
In June, the band performed an intimate private Nashville show in conjunction with Jon Bon Jovi’s Runaway Tours. In its first show since April 2022, the band hosted a three-day, two-night luxury event in Music City, which featured admission to the private phone-free performance, a Bon Jovi Forever Party at JBJ’s Nashville, and more.
