Event features 30 bonus minutes

CMT grand finales its first-ever CMT Music Awards Week tonight (Fri, Apr 15th) with the CMT Music Awards Extended Cut at 8 pm ET/PT on CMT. The event features 30 extra minutes of bonus content and never-before-seen solo performances from Jason Aldean, Cody Johnson, Cole Swindell and Lainey Wilson. It also includes an extended CMT Equal Play bonus package.

Cody Johnson walked away with two first-time wins, while Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood each took home two trophies, including the highly-coveted “Video of the Year” award, marking two milestones: Aldean’s first-ever win in the coveted category and Underwood’s continued reign as the most awarded artist in CMT history with a total of 25 career wins. Miranda Lambert notched her 12th career win; country legend George Strait, newcomer Parker McCollum, and country duo Maddie & Tae each won their very first CMT Music Awards.

CMT and management services company mtheory have announced the six candidates chosen to participate in its newly-launched Equal Access Development Program, an artist and management training initiative. Designed to foster and support all marginalized communities that are underrepresented in the genre, the program was first announced onstage at the CMT Music Awards by CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King. King called the new effort “a bold commitment towards ensuring an inclusive future for all voices in country music.”

We were on the Red Carpet where we spoke to King, comedian Joel McHale, Elvie Shane, Callista Clark, Parmalee, Chapel Hart, Restless Road and others. We’ll have a full recap on an upcoming episode of The Music Universe Podcast.
