Metallica San Fransisco Take Over features an array of events

Metallica is taking over its hometown of San Francisco for its 40th anniversary next month. The band will perform two shows at the Chase Center on December 17th and 19th with a full weekend of curated live music, Blackened Whiskey tastings, and other events starting on December 16th. The 40th anniversary shows were announced earlier this year and only available to registered members of Metallica’s Fifth Member fan club.

White Reaper, who graciously appeared on the recent Metallica Blacklist album, kicks things off by playing at August Hall on Thursday, December 16th. Other Metallica Blacklist artists Goodnight, Texas and Kamasi Washington will also be hitting the stage around town during the weekend at various venues.

Throughout the weekend, the Blackened Whiskey team will host a bevy of events including The Official Metallica 40th Anniversary Kick-Off Party on December 17th and The Official Metallica Pre-Show Party on December 19th, both with executive order bars and lounges.

On Saturday, December 18th, a film festival showing Cliff ‘Em All, Cunning Stunts and Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de México at the AMC Kabuki 8 at 1881 Post Street.

Photographer extraordinaire Ross Halfin will be busy all weekend signing copies of Metallica: The Black Album in Black & White, conducting a Q&A with the band’s Steffan Chirazi, and hosting a gallery show.

Tickets for all events go on sale this Friday, November 19th at 10 am PST via Metallica.com. A very limited number of “Takeover the 40th” upgrades will also be available on Friday for those already attending the Chase Center shows. The upgrade includes entry for one person to the ticketed events along with one limited edition souvenir laminate, one 40th Anniversary weekend show poster set, one limited edition merch bundle, and one signed setlist from each of the 40th Anniversary shows. The upgrade does not include a ticket to either of the Chase Center shows or admission into additional private events.

Additional city-wide activities will be announced soon.

The news comes a day after the unveiling of The Metallica Black Box which offers an unprecedented and ongoing deep dive into every era of Metallica from the early 80s garage days up to its present status as multi-platinum, stadium-filling hard rock standard bearers. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo will “unbox” their collections, pulling their favorite, most significant, and personally meaningful artifacts out of careful storage. Features available exclusively in the Black Box will range from the virtual to the physical including weekly livestream events and extremely limited signed memorabilia.

The band released the 30th anniversary of The Black Album on September 10th via its own Blackened Recordings. This “definitive” reissue was remastered for ultimate sound quality and is available in several configurations to suit every music fan’s preference. Metallica also released The Metallica Blacklist that celebrates the enduring influence of Metallica with an unprecedented 53 artists spanning an unbelievably vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, each contributing a unique interpretation of their favorite Black Album cut.
