Single available after label initially “refused” to release it

Halsey has released “So Good,” an honest look at the sometimes circuitous path love takes. The song was produced by Tobias Karlsson and Max Martin.

The official video was directed by Alev Aydin, Halsey’s partner, and will premiere on June 10th.

The song finally sees its release after the singer/songwriter shared on social media that the label wanted to create a “viral moment on TikTok.”

“I’ve been in the industry for eight years and I’ve sold over 165 million records,” Halsey shares in a TikTok video, “and my record company is aying that I can’t release [‘So Good’] unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok. Everything is marketing. And they are doing this to basically every artist these days. I just wanna release music, man, and I deserve better [to be honest].”

Halsey followed the complaint with better news.

“Talked to my label tonight after my TikTok tantrum,” Halsey tweets. “They said, ‘Wow! The TikTok is going really strong!’ I was like, ok, cool, so can I release my song now? They said ‘we’ll see.’ Tell me again how I’m making this up.”

Following a sold out show in Toronto, Halsey will headline Governors Ball in New York City this Saturday, June 11th, and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on June 21st. The Marías and Abby Roberts are the supporting acts on the remaining Love and Power Tour dates, with Wolf Alice appearing on June 21st in place of The Marías.

Last week, as Halsey celebrated the fifth anniversary of the release of Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, the RIAA announced that the album had attained 2x Platinum status. Halsey’s third album, Manic, is also double Platinum. Both albums debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Current Album Sales chart – as did 2021’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.
